Campus Communicators Meeting
February 21, 2007
The Campus Communicators meeting was held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 in Room 231 of Foy Union.
- OCM staff brought the Communicators up-to-date on the following:
- Print production/graphic services organizational changes/CopyCat expandedservices (be sure to obtain approval before requesting requisition for printing);
- Presidential search, getting close to campus visits;
- Photographic services update, including handout; handout will be posted on Web site; can coordinate outside photographer or loaner camera when Photoservices is not available;
- Introduction of Lucy LaMar as new marketing specialist in OCM/credit card marketing, handout of benefits provided;
- Media relations update/keeping experts guide current/working on enhanced news Web delivery and Newsmakers/hometown releases/clip reports each day in AU Daily;
- Timely Facts and Style Guides available; Style Guide also available online; both items distributed;
- Ranking sheets on AU Academic Rankings (DRAFT) copies distributed; to be posted on several Web sites;
- Alternative energy publication and distribution of same; next publication regarding Water Resources Center to complement it;
- Next U.S. News mailer – canine detection, 1st week of March;
- Marketing updates regarding TALONS Day, recruiting publications and research for women’s initiatives.
Updates were given by the following Colleges/Schools/Departments:
- Ag – Working on updating Web site, Web site for Natural Resources, student recruitment and Ag Illustrated;
- RBD Library – New coffee bar open, press release for donations;
Auburn Abroad – Summer abroad, expressed thanks to OCM for publicity and videos;
- College of Engineering – Engineering Day on 2-23-07, fund raising for new Shelby Center, new Web site, upcoming AT&T minority engineering reunion;
- Alumni/Auburn Magazine – Latest issue contained story of AU alum Eric O’Neill and his life as an FBI agent who brought down spy Robert Hanssen. Movie premiere, attended by Mr. O’Neill, was held on campus. Next issue of Auburn magazine due out in May. Special issue due out in June introducing new president; issue will be sent to 164,000+ households. Still room for advertising by colleges and departments for the June issue.
Env. Institute – Black Belt counties, Natural Heritage event;
- Museum – Three exhibits of native Alabamians, Auburn & Beyond, Alabama Resources Show;
- Business – Shareholder magazine, development proposals, press releases and scholarships;
- College of Education – Visit by Susan Whitson, personal secretary to Laura Bush, last week. Thanked OCM for publicity; working on accreditation process; updating Web site; Keystone magazine;
- Extension – Just launched the National Extension Relationship & Marriage Education Network website (http://www.nermen.org) which we have been working on with Dr. Francesca Adler-Baeder, HDFS Extension Specialist in the AUCollege Human Sciences; This is the third in a trio of Web sites we have been working on including the Alabama Marriage & Family Project website (http://www.alabamamarriage.org) which was done in conjunction with the Alabama Marriage Handbook (http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/H/HE-0829/HE-0829.pdf), and the National Stepfamily Resource Center website (http://www.stepfamilies.info).
- OIT – AU Access services for students launched; April 1 GROUPS to be launched;
- CopyCat – Overview of new services provided and relationship between OCM and CopyCat for printing projects;
- Diversity – First newsletter published; asked everyone to review communications side of new Diversity policy;
- CLA – Viewbook; new folder printed; on March 31 CLA will celebrate its 20th birthday with a celebration on the Haley concourse;
- Outreach – Beyond Auburn magazine;
- Human Sciences – Human Sciences summit for War on Hunger on campus this weekend; From Fall 2004 to Dec. 2006 over 400,000 pounds of food given on campus and with partner, Winn Dixie; over $19,000 was given to the World Food program; May 7 is Women’s Philanthropy Board Symposium with AU alum, president of Old Navy speaking and representative of Kiplinger magazine speaking; and
- Development – Over $450,000 million given to date; campaign celebration upcoming.
