Campus Communicators Meeting
April 18, 2007

The Campus Communicators meeting was held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in Room 231 of Foy Union.

  • Presentations were made by:
    • Cara Mia Pugh and David Lane of Research and Assessment regarding university rankings;
    • Cindy Singley, Director of Recruitment and Enrollment Management regarding on the Admissions process;
    • Wiebke Kuhn of CLA on iTunesU.

  • OCM staff brought the Communicators up-to-date on the following:
    • Introduction of Lacey Updegraff as new multi-media specialist in OCM;
    • Co-hosting with Alumni Affairs conference on “Managing Multiple Brands on Campus” on 4-19-07;
    • U.S. News mailer on canine detection;
    • The Annual Faculty Awards and Alumni Awards banquet to be held on 10-18-07;
    • Urban studio working with Fairfield and Valley, Alabama;
    • New Web look for Top News;
    • Common AP Style Mistakes, along with a handout for Communicators;
  • Updates were given by the following Colleges/Schools/Departments:
    • Ag – Working on Ag Illustrated spring issue; working with new institute to help create logo and other items and with APT. Farmers Market reopens tomorrow, April 19, with limited items. Working on water conference, alt energy Ag and Experimental station. New Ag Web site up.
    • Extension – Currently rebuilding the web site for Forestry and Wildlife Sciences Extension including moving site to the Extension server; Participating in ACE/NETC, a joint conference held every two years that draws Extension and Ag Communications and IT staff from the Land Grant schools in every state. This year we (John Hartley, ACES Webmaster & Mark Bransby, AU CoAg Webmaster) will be collaborating with our counterparts at the University of Georgia on a presentation for the conference regarding distributed web maintenance using the Adobe Publishing System.
    • Auburn Abroad – Boosting numbers in Study Abroad; International Awards dinner held; reaching out to Korean students on campus; and recruitment from theatre schools.
    • College of Engineering – World of Asphalt tour recently held at NCAT; robots team placed second in competition their first time out; fundraising for second phase of Shelby Center; rededication for new Shelby Center to be held on 6-27-07; donors luncheon; alumni counsel; and AT&T minority engineering reunion recently held.
    • College of Education – Keystone magazine.
    • OIT – Discussed laptop security and new software soon available to help with thefts of laptops; new password system for new students; recommended everyone check out AU Access.
    • Diversity – Women’s leadership program and clothesline project recently held with good number of participants; lots of publicity in local newspaper and AUDaily. Saturday Academy being hosted this coming weekend for Lee and Macon County schools; expecting over 200 students and their parents on campus. Second Best practices Strategic Diversity project on campus end of April. PLUS program alumni to fund two students.
    • Human Sciences – Hosting Women’s Philanthropy Board Fifth Annual Spring Symposium and Luncheon featuring Janet Bodnar, deputy editor, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine and Dawn Robertson, alum, president of Old Navy on 5-7-07 at 8:00 a.m. at the Hotel at Auburn University.
    • COSAM – AU Explorer.
    • Pharmacy – New building; satellite pharmacy school in Mobile; and new IT person finally hired.
    • Alumni Affairs – Thank you cards being printed; special issue of magazine brought in $20,000 over goal in advertising, scheduled to be mailed on 6-22-07; fall issue to feature 50th anniversary of football; summer issue to be mailed 6-9-07; graduation part on Thach outside Haley in mid May.
    • Outreach Programs Office – Advertising for summer staff, camp counselors; upcoming real estate fair; other programs being offered.
    • College of Business – Working on reaccredidation; European Union ambassador to speak on 4-25-07; and all scholarship applicants with a SAT score of 3.25 or greater are awarded scholarships.
  •
