Campus Communicators Meeting

The Campus Communicators meeting was held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, in Room 231 of Foy Union.
Thanks to those of you who attended last week's Campus Communicators Meeting. Below are the topics discussed and also brief summaries of updates provided from members.
OCM staff brought the Communicators up-to-date on the following:
Guest: Nancy McDaniel in Educational Support Services updated group on resources for students; handouts available to all Camp Commers.
This Week @ AU: replaces campus connection; new tabloid format.
Wire Eagle: aka Top News, has two parts: online and archive. RSS-based subscription service – will send weekly updates to subscribers, and news feed goes to newsrooms.
Game Day: Game Day update given. OCM will continue communicating changes via Web.
Photo Services Move: Photo Services has moved into new offices and a studio in Foy; Camp Comm members are encouraged to drop by and see the new facilities.
TV spots being taped now, creed readings, NCAA productions and print ads featuring faculty and prominent alums.
Photographic Services Calendar: Hallmarks of Auburn now available.
U.S. News Rankings out this week.
Faculty Awards scheduled for 10-18-07 with reception after the ceremony.
Director of Governmental Affairs back on board. Sherri Fulford appointment for one year.
BOT meeting scheduled for 8-30 and 8-31-07.

Updates were given by the following Colleges/Schools/Departments:
Development: Spring regional campaign events have concluded, and regional campaigns will start again in the fall.
Engineering: Working on annual report, fall magazine, development initiatives, outreach, pledges for second phase of Shelby, plans are to move into Shelby in November and be open for business after Christmas.
Nursing: Blue Jean Ball in September, new faculty and staff.
College of Business: Executive MBA has 21 students enrolled, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the COB on 9-21 and 9-22-07, scholarship banquet on 9-7-07, working on Shareholder magazine, participating in Facebook-like group in October.
Trademark & Licensing: Reminder letter regarding licensed vendors going out soon, $2 million in scholarships for the year.
Multicultural Affairs/Diversity: Summer programs are under way; PLUS scholars orientation upcoming; diversity training for Camp War Eagle under way; new AVP for Access and Community Initiatives will be in place soon; and appointees for diversity officers for each college have been made.
CopyCat: Promotional items available, RBD hours expanded until midnight, cost of color copies going down, offering desk calendars.
JCS Museum: Free welcome back reception being held, working on newsletter, free nights wine tasting in partnership with Kroger, Big Roger Brown on 10-5-07, revamping website.
Auburn Magazine: Fall issue out soon, issue featuring 50th anniversary of the 1957 football championship, new associate editor hired.
Pharmacy: Satellite school now open with enrollment of 148, recently hosted mock trial, website up and running, newsletter to alums.
College of Education: New associate dean, Dan Clay, named to replace Dr. Andrew Weaver, who is retiring after working for AU for 47 years; Nancy Barry is a new dept. head; additional positions soon to be filled include Dept. of Kinesiology department head and associate dean for academic affairs and certification; National University of Costa Rica partnership.
College of Human Sciences: Working on a news magazine to be mailed annually and sent electronically on a quarterly basis, CHS fall convocation to be held on 9-6-07, Women’s Philanthropy speaker to be Kay Ivey on 10-5-07, Hunger Awareness Week scheduled for 10-15 to 10-19-07. Healthy Marriages Web sites updated, billboards up statewide, 1-800 phone calls up and running, TV spots, and a talk show on WSFA. Judge Hatchett to speak at Alabama Children’s Trust Fund event to be held at Opelika Marriott on 9-25 to 9-27-07, 400 people scheduled to attend.
Ag, Alabama Experiment Station and NRMDI: Outdoor University – AU selected by Outdoor Life magazine as one of the top ten universities for pursuing a degree related to the outdoors. On Sept. 23 there will be an event cosponsored by Ag, Forestry and Wildlife Sciences and Outdoor Life magazine with booths related to outdoor careers and demonstrations and ATV's. Ag Hill Update -- new College of Ag e-newsletter launched on Aug. 22. NRMDI is launching a Web site to highlight the drought conditions in the southeast and information about the impacts on different natural resources. The Bioenergy and Bioproducts Center within NRMDI will soon be launching its website. Working on Ag Illustrated, National FFA tailgate party at New Mexico game; Art in Agriculture started over 20 years ago at Oregon State and will be at JCS Museum this fall.
Music: New faculty for fall, one third to one fourth of faculty are new.
