Campus Communicators Meeting
November 28, 2007

 

            The Campus Communicators meeting was held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in Room 231 of Foy Union. 

            Thanks to those of you who attended last week's Campus Communicators Meeting. Below are the topics discussed and also brief summaries of updates provided from members.

OCM staff brought the Communicators up-to-date on the following:

  • Dogs in the end zone, the “Famous Foy Help Desk,” the Bromberg ad and the strategic planning process. 
  • The Question Authority:  AU’s internal reference/question guide. 
  • The new “Family Album” publication featuring faculty members, graduates and students.  The new publication will replace Timely Facts.
  • YouTube AU site, updates on Flicker, hood and mortarboard videos and other web opportunities.
  • IQLA Awards, advertising appearing in the Wall Street Journal and Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other economic impact ads.
  • AU ALERT update.
  • AUDaily suggestions.
  • Commencement speakers for the future.
  • Update on Credit Card:  end of year results and a thank you to Bo Jackson for signing mini helmets.
  • Update on Research Park, including the creation of the materials and first business being named to locate in the Research Park around Sept. 2008.
  • Web Cams – more interactive and involved.
  • Sample materials shared with attendees.

 

Updates were given by the following Colleges/Schools/Departments:

  • Engineering:  B.E.S.T. competition to be held on 12-8 in the coliseum with 48 teams attending; completed recruiting video in conjunction with the Dept. of Transportation; continuing ed courses are now online utilizing Blackboard; annual report; fall newsletter; moving to Shelby Center in near future; and Dan Rather on campus regarding Juan Gilbert’s voting system.

 

  • Human Sciences:  Women’s Philanthropy financial advice segments featuring Kay Ivey nearing conclusion; upcoming 13th annual Quality of Life Awards for honoree Ray Anderson being held 12-3-07; and Webpage featuring video tips of the month.
  • Ag, Alabama Experiment Station and NRMDI:  Ag Illustrated; nationwide art and ag exhibit re:  cotton; two videos that OCM is working on with Ag; scholarships; and Christmas tour featuring the historic Herdsmen’s House house near Ag Heritage Park.

 

  • Education:  Working on Keystone magazine and thanks to donors; passed around a new booklet featuring new faculty and administration.
  • Liberal Arts:  Working on annual newsletter; preparing for meet and greet with deans in Foy Union on 11-29-07.

 

  • Business:  Working on next issue of magazine; systematic databases created to assist with scholarship application process for currently enrolled students in the COB.
  • Development:  Working on newsletter; new campaign total is $551 million.

 

  • Music:  Developing an events coordinator position; scholarships audition and thanks to OCM for creating this year’s audition poster.
  • Libraries:  Working on upcoming newsletter; just held a marathon reading of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" in celebration of the book's 50th anniversary; AU Libraries now online at www.flickr.com; preparing for "Up All Night" 12-7 thru 12-13-07 in partnership with SGA.

 

  • COSAM:   Completed “Tigers for Tigers” campaign in observance of tiger conservation.
  • Nursing:  Working on donor publications.

 

  • OIT:  AU Alert; working on next year’s October cyber security awareness campaign.
  • Alumni:  Introduction of new associate editor; working on Auburn magazine.

 

  • CopyCat:  Announced recent content winners.
