Communicators' Listserv
Communications and Marketing manages a listserv that provides a forum for information sharing among AU's campus communicators. Click here to e-mail a request for a subscription. Subscribers can post messages by sending e-mail to campcom@auburn.edu.
Campus Communicators Group
The Office of Communications and Marketing is committed to offering guidance and information to the many professionals across campus who help shape the University's image. The OCM coordinates bi-monthly meetings where professionals discuss topics relating to higher education communications. The office also maintains the Campus Communicators website and directory of members.
Media Relations
The Office of Communications and Marketing is the liaison between the University and the media. The primary goal is to enhance the image of AU by placing positive stories in local, regional and national publications and broadcasts. Additionally, the office assists administrators and faculty in identifying key messages and creating media strategies for issues relating to the University. Although staff members are qualified to speak to reporters on a number of topics, we prefer to facilitate meetings and/or discussions between the reporter and faculty expert. OCM has developed an online resource to assist experts in making the most of media opportunities.
To submit news releases to the OCM staff for distribution to media, click to https://fp.auburn.edu/ocm/news_routing. AU identification is required to log in, and dean or vice presidential approval is needed before submitting.
OCM tracks stories about the University daily and combines them into a document named AU In the News. Each day's document, which links to the full text of stories relating to Auburn University and higher education, is sent to the president, vice presidents, deans and senior administrators to keep them informed of stories making headlines across Alabama, the Southeast and the nation.
Printing Procedures
Effective June 5, 2003, Auburn University has in place a list of procedures for all printed material.
Publications Planning
Even with the advancing technology of desktop publishing, taking a project from the "We need." phase to the delivery of a high-quality, printed product takes time. A brochure (two-color; 8-1/2" x 11" flat, folded in thirds; client supplies rough manuscript) can take between six to eight weeks from first meeting to delivery. If you think that is more time than needed, remember we are working on several jobs simultaneously. Once printed, your publication will be in the public's view for quite some time. That is why we emphasize two crucial factors - thinking ahead and careful planning - to make the process for your project significantly more effective and successful.
Please familiarize yourself with the following steps. If you have a project that is ready to go to the printer and does not require the design services of our office, then we request you go to http://www.ocm.auburn.edu/graphicservices/printingprocedures.html for the necessary steps. If you do need design services, contact Kevin Loden at lodenke@auburn.edu or 844-9991 to set up an appointment. At that meeting, we will ask you some questions regarding your project. Before Creative Services takes on a new project, we must have SOLID answers to a number of questions that apply to your particular project. Your answers to these questions will help us determine the time required to do the job and if we can work it into our schedule. We make every effort to take on as many jobs as possible; however if our schedule is full, we will assist the client in finding graphic design help.
