Hubbard to receive Alumni's Sheffield Award

Susan Sorrells Hubbard, associate professor in Auburn University's College of Human Sciences and director of the Hotel Program in the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, is the 2004 recipient of the Pamela Wells Sheffield Award. The selection of the recipient of this university award is coordinated by the Office of Alumni Affairs.

Named in honor of Auburn class of 1965 alumna Pamela Wells Sheffield, the award was established in 1991 to recognize Auburn women who embody its namesake's service and commitment to the university and the Auburn family.

The award will be presented to Hubbard during ceremonies at Auburn's home football game against the University of Kentucky on Oct. 23. The first such award was presented to Sheffield posthumously in 1991.

"Pam Sheffield gave her heart to Auburn, and this award, named in her memory, honors others who are loyal to Auburn and work diligently to see Auburn succeed," said Deborah Shaw, interim vice president for Alumni Affairs. "Susan Hubbard reflects the wonderful qualities that made Pam the epitome of an Auburn woman."

Alabama First Lady Patsy Riley, among those who nominated Hubbard for the award, said Hubbard's "most endearing quality is her commitment and devotion to her precious family as well as her Auburn family, friends and students. Auburn University has a jewel in Susan."

A 1987 Auburn graduate, Hubbard has been faculty advisor to the Cater Society since 1997, Omicron Delta Kappa since 2001 and Mortar Board from 1996 to 1999. Her work with the Athletics Department has included service as an advisor and judge for the Tigerettes and Tiger Hosts since 1989.

A Camp War Eagle faculty honoree in 1996, she received the Emerald Management Review Citation of Excellence Award and was elected to Emerald's Hall of Fame for the world's best management authors in 2003. She was a faculty honoree for the Successfully Orienting Students program.

A native of Opp, Ala., Hubbard is married to state Rep. Mike Hubbard, R- Auburn, president of Auburn Network and a partner in Craftmaster Printers. They have two sons, Clayte, 9, and Riley, 4.

Pam Sheffield was a 1965 graduate of Auburn. She married an Auburn man and she sent her children to Auburn. She was, by any definition, the consummate Auburn woman. Her love for Auburn went beyond affection. Her love was a commitment to Auburn and to its people -- its students, staff, faculty and alumni.
