GAINES LANIER CONFIRMED FOR SEAT ON AU BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Alabama Senate recently approved the appointment of Gaines Lanier of Lanett, Ala., to the Auburn University Board of Trustees. Lanier, chairman and chief executive officer of the J. Smith Lanier & Co. insurance brokerage firm, became a trustee immediately upon confirmation and will take his seat at the board's next meeting June 28.

AU STUDENTS RIDE ON TIME THANKS TO NEW TRANSIT TECHNOLOGY
Auburn University students no longer have an excuse for being late to class thanks to new technology being utilized by the university's Tiger Transit bus system.

AU’S URBAN STUDIO REDESIGNING ALABAMA ONE TOWN AT A TIME
Faculty members from Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction are working to educate civic leaders and decision makers in small towns across Alabama about the benefit of good community planning and design. This initiative is the foundation of the School of Architecture’s Urban Studio, an outreach program that gives fifth-year students opportunities to pursue design in an urban setting and engage in community projects.

AT&T TO SUPPORT PATHWAYS PROGRAM IN AU'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
AT&T Inc. has donated $200,000 to support the Pathways project in AU's College of Business. Pathways includes a summer enrichment camp to recruit underrepresented students; an endowed scholarship program to promote retention; and support services to encourage student success. AT&T joins Energen Corporation as a lead corporate sponsor in this new initiative.

AU, MASADA TO CONVERT GARBAGE, SEWAGE TO ETHANOL
A $1 million per year research agreement to develop and evaluate promising alternatives for the production of ethanol, aviation and other fuels using waste and natural resources has been reached between Auburn University's Alabama Center for Paper and Bioresource Engineering and the Masada Resource Group LLC.

AU'S SPEECH AND HEARING CLINIC BENEFITING COMMUNITY
A part of the College of Liberal Arts Department of Communication Disorders, Auburn University’s Speech and Hearing Clinic provides assessment and treatment services for a full range of patients who experience problems with speaking, understanding or hearing. This year the clinic celebrates 60 years of helping the residents of East Alabama.

COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS CONGRATULATES ALUMNA CYNTHIA TUCKER ON PULITZER
The College of Liberal Arts wishes to congratulate journalism alumna Cynthia Tucker on winning the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for Commentary. The college is hosting a reception in Tucker's honor on June 29, 2007, in Atlanta.

HISTORIAN AND AU ALUMNA ATKINS ELECTED TO ALABAMA ACADEMY OF HONOR
The Alabama Academy of Honor has elected Birmingham native and Auburn University alumna Leah Rawls Atkins as one of four new members for 2007.
