SALLY JONES HILL NAMED AU CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIR

Sally Jones Hill will succeed the late Buddy Weaver as campaign co-chair for the “It Begins at Auburn” Campaign. Hill served as the AU Foundation President from Oct. 1, 2004, until Sept. 30, 2006, and as vice president and member since 1986. She assumed her post as campaign co-chair at the beginning of October.

A 1963 Auburn University graduate in Liberal Arts, Hill has been very involved with the university since her time as a student. She was presented with the Algeron Sydney Sullivan Award in 1963, was director of the Auburn University Alumni Association from 1978-1980 and served on the Business Advisory Council.

Hill was honored as the recipient of the Distinguished Service Key in 1998 and was the first woman to be named the Laurel Crowned Circle Recipient in 2003. She has served as the vice president of Chi Omega, vice president and president of the Women’s Student Government Association, a member of the AU Alumni Board and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council of the College of Business.

She will continue to act as vice president of the Women’s Philanthropy Board and is currently a member of the Presidential Search Committee.

“Sally is a cherished member of the Auburn family,” said AU President Ed Richardson. “Her involvement with the university shows her commitment to its future success.”

Hill is both a member of the 1856 Society and a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association. She and her husband have given generously to Auburn University and their donations have been matched by Hill’s commitment to the integrity and future of her alma mater.

“Sally was president of the foundation during a significant time in Auburn’s history, the public launch of Auburn’s largest fundraising campaign,” said Bob McGinnis, vice president for Development. “Her dedication and hard work are evident in the success of our campaign and the continued vision of the Auburn University Foundation. I am confident in her abilities to further that success as campaign co-chair.”

The “It Begins at Auburn” Campaign encompasses all colleges and schools as well as the library, athletics, Auburn University Montgomery and the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Endowments for student scholarships, faculty, programs and unrestricted dollars make up 58 percent of the campaign's goal. In addition to endowments, the campaign will also focus on facilities and equipment, campus beautification, research, and current operations. The campaign has raised more than $400 million, or 80 percent of the campaign’s goal.
