AUBURN TEXTILE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT HOSTING E-TECH
AUBURN -- The Department of Textile Engineering in Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering will host the third annual E-Tech, Engineering Technology Academy, starting Saturday (July 17).
The academy, which runs through July 24, is sponsored with the Civil Air Patrol.
Twenty-one CAP cadets from across the country -- all high school juniors -- will participate in aviation and engineering-related projects. Other departments hosting the cadets include aerospace, industrial, materials and mechanical engineering.
The cadets will experiment with fibrous composite materials for aircraft structures and test them in the aerospace wind tunnels. They will also explore turbine engine materials, aircraft carriers and flight deck safety.
As part of their week-long academy, the cadets will visit several War Eagle Motorsports teams, including the Baja, Formula SAE, and Formula 25 Hovercraft teams.
Field trips will include the Auburn-Opelika Airport, Maxwell Air Force Base and the Air National Guard's F-16 wing in Montgomery.
