CIVIL RIGHTS BOOK TO BE FEATURE AT AUBURN'S PEBBLE HILL

AUBURN -- Jim Carrier, author of the new Traveleršs Guide to the Civil Rights Movement, will talk about the book in a program at Auburn University's Pebble Hill on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Part travel guide, part civil rights primer, The Traveleršs Guide to the Civil Rights Movement explores the famous locations of the movement and its roots. Organized by state, it includes maps, photos and essays that cover 14 states and the District of Columbia. The book was published by Harcourt/Harvest Books.

Carrier is author of eight books, including the 2000 book The Ship and the Storm: Hurricane Mitch and the Loss of the Fantome. He has written for National Geographic, The New York Times and SAIL, among other publications.

Between 1999 and 2000 he worked at the Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center.

Copies of Traveleršs Guide to the Civil Rights Movement will be available for purchase and signing. A reception will follow the program.
