WAR EAGLE NATIVE AMERICAN FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND AT AU
AUBURN -- The second annual War Eagle Native American Festival will begin Friday on the grounds of Auburn University's Jules Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts.
The three-day festival, sponsored by AU's Center for Diversity and Race Relations, Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs and Outreach, will feature traditional singers, dancers, musicians, food, crafts and living history camp sites.
Native Americans will also demonstrate wood carving, beading, flint knapping, tanning, pottery making, basketry, archery, leather work and herb craft.
There is no admission charge.
Friday will be s school day, and organizers urge students and teachers to take advantage of the learning experience.
Festival hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m., on Sunday.
In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Ham Wilson Arena on South Donahue Drive.
There will also be a genealogy workshop conducted at AU's Ralph Brown Draughon Library by library assistant Joyce Hicks, who will discuss print resources for the Cherokee. English instructor Kathy McClelland and genealogy archivist Clan MacLellan will also talk about free genealogy Internet resources.
