AUTHOR JESSICA GLASSCOCK TO READ AT AU'S PEBBLE HILL

AUBURN -- The Auburn University Center for the Arts & Humanities will host author Jessica Glasscock, an Auburn native, in a reading and book signing on Dec. 1 (Monday).

The public program, which is free, will begin at 4 p.m. A reception will follow.

Glasscockšs book, Striptease: From Gaslight to Spotlight, is an illustrated history of burlesque. From modern dance through vaudeville and Broadway revues, the book charts the evolution of a form of entertainment that has both reflected and influenced American culture.

In the process, Glasscock explores the careers of such performers as Isadora Duncan, Loie Fuller, Gypsy Rose Lee and Blaze Starr. Published by Abrams, the book is the only fully illustrated volume available on the subject.

She has also published articles on Cindy Sherman, Rei Kawakubo, Vivienne Westwood and the history of burlesque.

Glasscock received a master's degree in visual culture from New York University and has worked for the American Civil Liberties Union's Women's Rights and Reproductive Freedom Projects.

Copies of Striptease will be available for purchase and signing at the Pebble Hill program.

For directions to Pebble Hill or more information, call the Center at 334/844-4946.
