GREEN NAMED AU’S NEW DEAN OF STUDENTS

AUBURN - Johnny Green, currently Auburn University’s assistant vice president for access and community initiatives in the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, is AU’s new dean of students, AU interim President Ed Richardson announced today.

“Dr. Green has been a student favorite on campus for a long time,” Richardson said. “He has reached out to the student body in his roles as a faculty member and as an administrator. He has the right mix of experience for the job. I am confident that he will make an excellent and popular dean of students.”

Green has extensive experience at Auburn. In addition to his current position, he has also served AU as a member of the political science faculty, interim assistant provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, director of the AU Center for Diversity and Race Relations and special assistant to the provost.

Green holds a bachelor’s degree and doctorate from Auburn and a master’s degree from Auburn-Montgomery.

Green’s appointment becomes effective July 15. He replaces Kent Smith, who has accepted the position of vice president of Student Affairs at Ohio University.

Auburn University is a preeminent land-grant and comprehensive research institution with more than 23,000 students and 6,500 faculty and staff. Ranked among the top 50 public universities nationally, Auburn is Alabama’s largest educational institution, offering more than 230 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs.
