RETIRED SSA COMMISSIONER TO SPEAK AT AU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION PROGRAM

Gordon Sherman
AUBURN -- Gordon Sherman, a retired commissioner of the Social Security Administration and an Auburn University alumnus, will speak at AU at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at Haley Center Room 3410D.
Sherman, who graduated from the Auburn College of Education in 1957 and is its second Keystone Leader-in-Residence, will speak on his leadership concept, experiences and perspective on the value of a college degree.
Sherman retired from a career in public service in January 1999, after more than 43 years of combined military and civilian service. For more than 23 years, he was commissioner of the Social Security Administration's eight-state Southeast Region. He was responsible for the supervision, coordination, executive leadership and administration of the Social Security program.
Sherman is now a principal of Lamon & Sherman Consulting, LLC, an investment and income-replacement consulting firm based in Atlanta.
Sherman is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, chairman of the board for the Lenbrook Square Foundation, Inc., and is a member of the AU Foundation Board and Public Administration Program Advisory Council. An endowed lecture series in the Public Administration Program also bears his name.
The AU College of Education established the Keystone Leader-in-Residence program to introduce its students to proven leaders in the fields of education, human services, health services, community services and government.
Keystone Leaders spend a day on the Auburn campus sharing their perspectives of current events in their respective fields.
