AU TO MARK NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK IN VARIETY OF WAYS
AUBURN -- From bluegrass music to free pizza and book repairs at the Ralph Brown Draughon Library, Auburn University will celebrate National Library Week starting Monday, April 19.
Sponsored by the American Library Association, National Library Week promotes library use and support while celebrating the contributions libraries make. This year's theme for the AU Libraries' celebration is Your Place@Your Library.
The celebration begins on Monday with a presentation by Ralph Mirarchi, the Ireland Professor in the AU School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. Mirarchi will speak at 10 a.m. in the Draughon Library Auditorium on his new four-volume set of guides to the vertebrate and invertebrate wildlife of the state, Alabama Wildlife.
Mirarchi will show slides of photographs from the books and talk about some of the species accounts. All of the guides are scheduled to be published in May and June.
The AU Libraries will also participate in Earth Day events in Foy Student Union on Thursday, April 22. The bluegrass band, Heart Pine, will play at 7 p.m. outside Draughon Library on the lawn next to the parking deck on Thursday.
On Friday, the library will offer free book repairs from 9 a.m.-11:45 a.m., and from 12:45 p.m.-2 p.m., on the first floor of the Draughon Library. The Physical Processing Unit of AU Libraries will repair lightly worn books.
National Library Week at Auburn will include other events and speakers such as the grand opening of the Internet Café, a workshop featuring the MyLibrary program and a multi-cultural fair on Monday; a speaker from the National Park Service on Tuesday; a barbeque tasting and genealogy workshop on Wednesday; and a pizza picnic on Friday.
Also, throughout the week the libraries will be giving away prizes.
