PHYSICIANS EXECUTIVE MBA PROGRAM TO LEARN ABOUT NATIONAL HEALTHCARE FIRST-HAND
IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
AUBURN - On March 13-15, Auburn Universitys Physicians Executive
MBA class will travel to Washington, D.C., for a course on Medico-Legal
Aspects of Healthcare and learn about the national healthcare debate first-hand
from policy makers.
The PEMBA program provides physicians throughout the country a way to
earn a degree in business through a combination of distance learning and
short campus residencies and two study trips in 21 months while maintaining
their busy practice schedules.
This will mark the 6th year that Auburn has sponsored the D.C. program
in partnership with the Southern Medical Association (SMA) headquartered
in Birmingham. Joining the PEMBA physicians are other physicians who register
through SMA.
"The aim of the D.C. program is to enable participating physicians
to become more knowledgeable about and active in shaping national healthcare
policy," says Stan Harris, Everett Professor and Director of the
PEMBA program.
This year the group will hear from experts on medical liability reform,
end-of-life care, medical error reporting, and drug approval and clinical
trial processes. They will then head to Capitol Hill to hear panel discussions
on the uninsured and hospital emergency preparedness.
One highlight of this year's meeting will be a panel discussion of stem
cell research including renowned stem cell researcher, Dr. John Gearhart
of Johns Hopkins University and a biomedical ethics expert from the University
of Virginia, Dr. Paul Lombardo.
A tradition of each year's program is an after-hours candlelight tour
of the U.S. Capitol building hosted by an Alabama Congressional Representative.
Finally, the group will enjoy a reception at the home of a current PEMBA
student, Dr. Lynt Johnson, Chairman of Georgetown's Transplant Institute.
Physicians interested in joining this year's D.C. program are encouraged
to contact Southern Medical Association at www.sma.org.
The College of Business at Auburn University is accredited at the undergraduate

Business (AACSB International), the highest standard of achievement for
business schools. Fewer than 20 percent of collegiate business programs
around the world have earned AACSB accreditation. Institutions that earn
accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement
through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review.
Auburn University is a preeminent land-grant and comprehensive research
institution with more than 23,000 students and 6,500 faculty and staff.
Ranked among the top 50 public universities nationally, Auburn is Alabama's
largest educational institution, offering more than 230 undergraduate,
graduate and doctoral degree programs.
