AU’S SCHINDLER AWARDED MEDAL FOR CONCRETE MATERIALS RESEARCH

AUBURN - Anton Schindler, Gottlieb assistant professor of civil engineering at Auburn University, has received the American Concrete Institute’s Wason Medal for Concrete Materials Research.

Schindler received the award during the institute’s recent annual meeting in Charlotte, N.C.

The Wason medal is given annually to the author of a peer-reviewed paper that reports original research work on concrete materials and advances knowledge of materials used in the construction industry. It was awarded to Schindler based on his paper emphasizing the difference in behavior of cementitious materials relative to temperature on the development of mechanical properties and hydration products.

“It is an honor to be the first Auburn faculty member to receive this medal,” Schindler said. “An award such as this brings recognition not only to the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering but to the university as a whole.”

Founded in 1904, the American Concrete Institute is one of the world’s leading technical and educational organizations in the field of concrete with almost 16,000 members.

Auburn University is a preeminent land-grant and comprehensive research institution with more than 23,000 students and 6,500 faculty and staff. Ranked among the top 50 public universities nationally, Auburn is Alabama’s largest educational institution, offering more than 230 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs.
