SUSTAINABILITY MEASURES DEMONSTRATED AT AU LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE EXHIBIT

AUBURN – The Department of Landscape Architecture in Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design, and Construction will present an exhibition of sustainability demonstrations by students pursuing master’s degrees in landscape architecture Oct. 28 through Nov. 28 in the CADC Gallery at Dudley Commons on the AU campus.

The exhibit, titled “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design in Landscape,” features demonstrations of ways to reduce environmental impacts on previously undeveloped lands and to improve contaminated sites. Students’ designs include demonstrations of erosion and sediment control, site selection, storm water management, light pollution and heat island reduction strategies and alternative transportation strategies.

“LEED is one of the most important sustainability frameworks for buildings,” explains Charlene LeBleu, an assistant professor in the School of Architecture. “Development and construction processes can damage both the environmental health of a site and the local ecology. To minimize such damage, it is important to consider sustainability alternatives throughout construction of a building and after it is occupied.”

Gallery hours for the exhibit are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information contact Charlene LeBleu at 844-0192.

Auburn University is a preeminent land-grant and comprehensive research institution with more than 23,000 students and 6,500 faculty and staff.
