MISSISSIPPI STATE SOCIOLOGIST WILL LECTURE AT AUBURN

AUBURN -- Peter B. Wood, associate professor of sociology and director of the Criminal Justice and Corrections Program at Mississippi State University, will lecture at Auburn University on Monday, April 19.

Wood will speak at noon at the Foy Student Union, Room 208, on the topic: "Is Imprisonment the Most Severe Punishment?"

The AU Department of Sociology and Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society are co-sponsoring the lecture, which will examine issues related to the criminal justice corrections system.

Wood, who holds a Ph.D., in sociology from Vanderbilt University, focuses his research on factors that motivate and maintain habitual offending, formal and informal deterrence mechanisms and issues related to correctional punishment philosophy and practice.

His work has been published in the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Criminology and Deviant Behavior.
