AU TO HOST WORKSHOP TO HONE TEENS' SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION SKILLS

AUBURN -- A workshop designed to give Alabama high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors an advantage in landing college scholarships will be hosted by Auburn University on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The workshop, "Scholarship and Leadership Development," is sponsored by the AU College of Agriculture's Youth in Praxis leadership development program, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Lee County Teen Leader 4-H Club.

"As college tuition costs continue to soar, more and more high school students and their parents are realizing that scholarships are crucial to getting a college education," says AU animal scientist Don Mulvaney, workshop organizer and coordinator of the College of Agriculture's agricultural leadership studies and Praxis Leadership Emphasis.

"Our goal with this workshop is to equip students with tools and skills that not only will give them an edge in the college scholarship application and interviewing processes but that also will help them become more effective leaders and communicators in college and on throughout life," Mulvaney said.

AU faculty and students in Mulvaney's advanced leadership development classes at Auburn will be presenting the workshop modules. The workshop is open to any high school student in Alabama. Space may be limited, and reservations will be made on a first-come basis.

The registration fee of $20, due by April 21, includes lunch and all workshop materials. Mulvaney urges parents and high school guidance counselors and student advisers to encourage students to attend.
